Transformational Journey: traces of movement through space and time.
The intention I set out with was to create an experimental artists video (Bordwell & Thompson 2013) that explores the capability of camera and software for moving image manipulation and the integration of still images into motion graphics. I wanted to create something that confers a sense of lived experience.

This short film is a form of interpretive performance documentation, which addresses both pre-meditated and spontaneous forms of performance . It suggests an experiment with and experience of combining liminality, subjectivity and artistic product (Palmer, in Perkins, 2014, p 91). The finished film has a hypnotic, almost psychedelic quality and would be effective as a projection for live performance backdrop, or for use as an MTV style music video (Mitchell 1989).
Over the Easter long weekend 2016 I accompanied my teenage son to his first outdoor music festival, an experience that will have lasting impact on his life and perspective on the world. The opening sequence provides context for the film over all, and the Journey to which the title refers becomes the subject of the film itself. The order of the shots, and the layering of textures over action sequences are designed to be suggestive of the constantly transforming state of consciousness that can occur over the course of a weekend such as the one documented by this film. The digital assets used to create this short film, which is an artistic representation of the experience from the perspective of my son, were captured in part by him on that weekend. Other assets have been sourced from the public domain through Pixabay and are released under the Creative Commons CC0 licence (Pixabay 2016). Also included is footage sourced from a later shoot that I arranged with a performing artist, Tanya Field, who we met at the festival. My assistant at that shoot is also credited in the end credit slide. This short film will be shared with both the music artist and the performing artist who are featured in it, and will be suitable for them to use to promote or enhance the performance of their own work.
Audio for this short film is a track titled Permian meets Triasic from Max Von Bumble (2015) used with verbal permission attained from the artist at the festival site.
